Cognitive Dissonance by Isabella Wisinger

When obedience earns love,
you can never say no.
If I could peel away every sticky piece of skin,
there would be nothing left between you and I,
or you and I,
or you and I.
Why isn’t it working?
I thought giving in meant you wouldn’t go.
If I could just loosen my grip on reality
until it slips completely out of reach-
If I let you pull out my heart and
crush it to a bloody pulp-
Will you remake me in Your image?
I look at you from behind cloudy eyes
as you tell me they’ll never love me like you do.
I’ll never, ever find someone who loves me
Just as much as you do.
